A. Mathieson and Son 8″ Coffin Plane, or is it?
Both iron, cap iron and body marked A. Mathieson and Son, however the body’s stamp looks unoriginal. The beech body is in excellent condition and nicely done and has had a nice throat repair which has tightened up the mouth nicely. The 2 1/4″ iron is nice and flat and pit-free on the cutting face. It’s set up as a smoother (slightly radiused edge) and hollow ground making it easy to sharpen.
A very pretty plane, heavy and in great repair ready for use apart from a quick sharpen.
