This Rabone No.1119 folding rule is a classic English measuring instrument produced between 1945 and 1963. The No.1119 is a traditional boxwood and brass folding rule designed for reliable measurement in carpentry, engineering workshops, and general layout work. The outer section of the main rule is marked in inches, 1⁄12″, 1⁄10″, and 1⁄8″ while the inner section is marked in inches and 1⁄16″. While the hinge acts as a protractor marked off in 30 degree sections and 5 degree divisions. This rule also features 8 scales running over the 6″ bevelled edges of the inner rule’s surface allowing you to quickly count in multiples of inches, 1⁄8″, 1⁄4″, 1⁄8″, 1⁄16″, 3⁄16″, 3⁄8″, and 3⁄4″. A quality tool in its day.
The rule features crisp graduations and the familiar Rabone layout. While this example retains excellent overall presentation, it also carries a small period repair near one hinge — a detail that adds authenticity and tells part of the tool’s working history.

Condition
This example presents extremely well overall, with clean boxwood surfaces, crisp graduations, and hinges that operate smoothly although too loosely. The brass shows only light, natural patina, and the rule folds and aligns correctly despite slight warping. The slight warping brings the legs tight together when closed.
A notable detail is a small repair near the inner hinge, where a sliver of brass and what appears to be JB Weld have been used to reinforce the joint. The repair is tidy, stable, and does not affect the function of the rule. It is visible on close inspection and should be considered part of the tool’s working history rather than a defect that compromises usability.
Aside from this repair, the rule remains in excellent good condition, with no cracks, only minor warping, and no significant staining.
