This vintage Record SS No.05 1/2 plane features the highly desirable “Stay-Set” two-piece cap iron system engineered by Record in England. The extra width (2-3/8″ original Record tungsten steel cutter) and heavy body of the 05 1/2 make it one of the most versatile bench planes.

Stay-Set (SS) Two-Piece Breaker: Allows iron sharpening without removing the cap iron setting.
Machine-Scraped Sole: Bottom sole plate has been precision machine-scraped flat by previous owner. Flatness hasn’t been checked in detail, but if you decide to go to the trouble of machine scraping, you probably know what you are doing and the plane is likely to be flatter than any sanded surface.
Original Handles: Handle retains original transfer logos.
Condition Note:
Excellent mechanical condition would make a very accomplished user. There is some loss of the original paint on the body. The iron features a clean, hollow-ground edge ready that just needs a quick hone to be bench ready.
