This No.540 hand drill is being sold in parts due to some parts being broken or missing, ideal for restorers, machinists, and collectors seeking original components to complete or repair their own drills. The No.540 hand drill is one of the most complex and desirable Yankee hand drills ever made, and original parts are increasingly scarce.  The chuck kept sticking and both bevelled drive wheels have missing teeth.  Otherwise, it is all in excellent condition.   The drill is the one in the photographs.

Main drive handle

Original main metal drive handle for Yankee No.540 hand drill.  Comes complete with wooden riveted handle and retaining screw that screws into main drive gear wheel.  All in good condition, but a little slop in the handle’s rivet.

Condition

Good vintage condition, handle probably refinished.  A little rust on the reverse of the handle.
