Description
These brass bullnose planes are pretty uncommon in Australia. Reputed to have been sold as a kit and cast for user to infill themselves. Some were cast copies by foundry workers or pattern makers and this appears to be one of those due to the imperfections in the casting and no maker’s name.
Nice little plane, nicely presented. Heavy at over 500g. Very Similar to a Norris 27.
The wedge is beautiful and in excellent condition. Very hard and dark wood – possibly ebony. The throat is a little wider than we would like to see, and the iron has some wear on it, but still plenty of life left in it.
1 1/16″ wide iron. It’s not a thick iron and has no marking on it so may be user made. Looks great and could make a fine user too. Blade is sharp and the tool is bench ready.
