Description
A heavy beech 11 1/4 inch adjustable spokeshave. No identification markings.
With brass hardware for adjusting the blade. Brass hardware doesn’t look very well fitted as the screws are a little proud (possibly replacements). Looks like somebody grafted a small piece of wood onto the body to repair it to one side of the tool where the blade goes through and the shavings are ejected, but it has been well done.
The mouth has a brass plate on it. We don’t know whether it’s an original brass plate or a mouth repair, but suspect it’s a repair, but it’s been nicely done, but not perfectly straight (more aligns to the blade). The blade is not perfectly straight either, there’s a bit more wear in the middle than the sides and this leads to a wider mouth in the centre despite the brass mouth. It’s probably perfectly useable, but with a bit of sharpening and tuning could be better.
