Description
You are never going to find a Mathieson No.5 Sash Fillister plane as close to mint and factory fresh as this again. It’s as crisp as the day it was sold. Looks like it has had a few minor boxwood repairs with a similarly coloured filler – one at the front of the throat. One of the brass ferrules on the stem also has a fine line of the same filller around it. Really nice and solid repairs – discrete, but not hidden. Owners initials are stamped into the top of the plane. We are being super picky here, because we know it’s a collectors item. It’s expensive for a wooden plane, and probably only for the most discerning.
As it’s numbered its after 1900, but the exact age is unknown. Decals were applied by Mathieson in the 1920s and there’s no sign of one of these, so I’m guessing before 1920. It’s not perfect. It has been used, but it has also been lovingly cared for and is in incredible condition.
