Description
Record No.A151 Round Sole Spokeshave – body only
Specialist shaping tool for curved work | Outstanding Record example with original decals
The Record No.A151 Round Sole Spokeshave was developed for shaping concave surfaces and working curves that are difficult to reach with a conventional flat-soled shave. As a result, it became a favourite amongst chair makers, wheelwrights, pattern makers and craftsmen producing curved timber components.
Breaking for parts as it was supplied incomplete
Manufactured by Record in Sheffield, England, the No.A151 combines a robust cast body with simple screw adjustment, allowing the user to take fine, controlled shavings from curved surfaces. The round sole allows the shave to follow contours smoothly, making it particularly useful for shaping chair seats, handles, wheel components and decorative timber work.
This example retains the desirable red finish together with the original Record decals.
Round sole spokeshaves are generally encountered less frequently than their flat-soled counterparts because they were sold in smaller numbers and often saw hard service when used. Consequently, examples surviving in this condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Key Features:
- Original Record decals remain present.
- Round sole for concave and curved work.
- Twin screw blade adjustment included.
- Excellent user and collector example.
