This is a superb set of 5 vintage bevel edge cabinetmaker’s chisels produced in England by Ashley Iles—one of Britain’s premier edge tool makers. Renowned for exceptional high-carbon steel that takes and holds a razor edge, Ashley Iles chisels are prized by fine woodworkers worldwide.
Set sizes include: 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, and 1 1/2″. Individually, new examples of these chisels total around $470 direct from Ashley Iles. These must have nice large red hardwood handles. Lengths between 28cm and 31cm with handles all 15cm (including ferrule) and 3.3cm diameter.
Ferrule Condition Note:
The brass ferrules on 4 of the 5 chisels experienced historic split cracking and have been solidly wire-bound/repaired by the previous owner. They are completely firm and fully functional as-is for bench work. For those wishing to restore them to factory aesthetic, Ashley Iles directly sells genuine replacement brass ferrules (Ashley Iles Ferrule Store). Looks like you could purchase replacements for around $3 each plus postage.
