Description
Believed to be a Siegley 18″ Fore Plane (equivalent to the Stanley No.6), but if so, not an early one. Siegley planes generally had interesting levercaps, but in their later years they looked more like Stanley’s before being bought out by Stanley. This plane was probably made by Stanley under the Siegley name until they stopped selling planes under that name in 1927. Unfortunately, there are no markings on the body or parts apart from the blade which is marked J Siegley (the J is short for Jacob). It has a nice blade (about 3/32″ or 2.5mm thick) – thicker than a Stanley and in amazing condition.
Made in USA.
The handles appear to be mahogany or similar hardwood – not rosewood or beech. The rear handle needs some love and has been broken and poorly repaired.
This is a restoration project of what is basically a very healthy No.6 sized plane that has all the parts and all the threads are in good shape apart from that handle. Could be a beauty and definitely a talking point……if nothing else, then for that iron. Cheap restoration project or leave it to us to fix up later and see the price around $150.
