An exceptional opportunity to acquire a rare Type 1 Stanley No. 113 Compass Plane from the early Stanley Rule & Level Co. era (c. 1877–1880).
This specific example features the coveted solid depth adjuster wheel, which tool collectors consider to be the earliest production variation of the Type 1 before Stanley transitioned to the 4-hole adjuster.
Condition & Details:
Matching Original Blade: Comes fitted with a correct Stanley Rule & Level Co. matching plane iron with plenty of life left on the blade.
Rare Solid-Wheel Adjuster: Features the first-run solid side depth adjuster wheel.
Body & Sole: The flexible spring steel sole and main body casting are in great shape with clean adjustments.
Handle Condition (Project Note): As is common with many surviving early No. 113s, the rear handle has broken off.
Restoration & Collectibility:
These cast rear handles can be restored or replaced—there are excellent examples of woodworkers cleanly grafting replacement tote handles or repairing the original casting.
