Description
Well, this is the first Stanley No. 97 cabinet maker’s chisel plane we have ever come across. It’s in pretty good shape, however the iron is crudely hand-made. It’s nice and thick and appears hard, but we are not sure what sort of edge retention it will have. The groves for adjustment in the iron could also be improved as they are particularly crude.
Usual small chips along the front of the casting are not common and present in this example.
These were only made 1905-1943 and we believe this to be an earlier model.
Beautiful rosewood knob is in excellent condition.
If you happen to have a 97 iron or a particular need for this plane as a user, this is for you.
