Description

Early Stanley No.113 Circular / Compass Plane

An exceptional example of an early Stanley No.113 Compass Plane from the sought-after Stanley Rule & Level Co. production era.  This is a Type 3 (1880–1892).

Designed for planing concave and convex curves, the No. 113 is a classic piece of American tool engineering. Unlike many surviving examples that suffer from cracked castings, missing linkage hardware, or damaged soles, or missing handled this plane is fully intact, complete, and structurally sound.

Key Features & Condition:
  • Original Stanley Iron: Features a correct early Stanley patent stamped iron with plenty of life left on the blade, paired with its matching cap iron and lever cap stamped “B 113”.

  • Stanley Rule & Level Co. Marking: The iconic embossed lettering on the front adjustment knob remains crisp and clearly legible.

  • Flexible Spring Steel Sole: Clean, smooth sole with no severe pitting or warping, adjusting smoothly across its full range.

  • Casting & Body: Dark, authentic patina with no breaks, cracks, or re-welds. The gear teeth and linkage arms are tight and operate as intended.  One gear engraved with previous owner’s name.

  • Usable & Collectable: Equally suited to taking fine shavings on curved cabinet work in the workshop or taking pride of place in a vintage Stanley collection.  So much lighter to use that the Record No. 020.

Hard to find in this complete, original condition. A standout addition for woodworkers, restorers, or serious vintage tool collectors.
