ECE planes carry a strong and well earned reputation and this basic European horned style plane is not exception. Made in Germany since 1852. The parallel irons are excellent quality with thickness around 2.5mm. As with all good steel it takes some work to get a decent edge on it, but it’s worth it. Beach bodies are enhanced with finger jointed more exotic wooden soles, possibly hornbeam in this case. Complete with strike button for iron removal or adjustment these are competent planes. Sometimes these planes are set up as scrub planes. Not this one as the mouth is too fine – about 1mm. A fine and basic user.
