Description
At just 3 1/2″ long, this small rounded sole wooden plane was probably user made. It may well have been made for a luthier. The unmarked blade is a solid 1/8″ (3.5mm) thick and 1″ wide. We estimate it to be radiused at about 3″.
At some point the side has split and is still open. Driving the wedge in doesn’t open it up further. The crack can be seen on top of the right-hand side of the plane (from a pushing user’s perspective) and runs approximately half-way down the side of the plane at about the angle of the blade. It may be an age crack, but we suspect it’s been dropped and the tough iron has split the side. Otherwise a gorgeous little plane
