Thos Ibbotson & Co 3/8″ pig sticker mortice chisel

Someone tried to build a replacement handle for this Thos Ibbotson & Co pig sticker mortice chisel.  Despite the brass banding it seems it didn’t work and split.  Great chisel – shame about the handle.  The chisel blade is 6 1/4″ long and 3/8″ wide.  Hefty chisel at nearly 500g.  The blade has been hollow ground, but it isn’t sharp and will need further grinding to get the best out of it.

Thomas Ibbotson started trading in 1822 and ceased trading in 1905.
